Lamentabile Consort

Finally, the digital release of the vocal ensemble Lamentabile Consort’s debut album, previously only released on vinyl, is here. It is a fascinating musical journey through the different traditions of vocal music, starting in the Renaissance and ending in late 20th century modernism.

The Lamentabile Consort was formed in January 1978 as a vocal ensemble on an old English pattern, with five male singers, of which countertenors make the upper parts. This makes the Lamentabile Consort especially suitable for singing music from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, for instance Thomas Tallis’ “Lamentations of Jeremiah” on this album, which was the group’s first performed work, and also provided its name.

The Lamentabile Consort also sings the traditional male choir repertoire, such as romantic music from the 19th and 20th centuries and modern music by both Swedish and foreign composers. The repertoire also includes African American spirituals, barbershop music and a humorous and often equilibristic type of arrangement, in England called “arrangements in close harmony’. In the latter genre, a number of visual effects may also occur.
At first, the ensemble appeared mostly at church concerts, but in the summer of 1979, it was invited to the Jeunesses Musicales congress in Zagreb, then Yugoslavia, where it was given an enthusiastic reception, which resulted in invitations to appear in many parts of Europe. During the 1980s and 90s, countless concerts were performed, as well as radio and TV appearances. After some years hiatus, the ensemble was reunited in 2004.

This album is available to stream and download on most digital stores, such as
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Tidal.
